Kyle Edmund's Journey: From Tennis to Sports Management with ATP x LALIGA MBA (2026)

In the world of professional sports, retirement can be a daunting prospect for athletes who have dedicated their entire lives to a single pursuit. This is the story of Kyle Edmund, a former tennis star who, after two decades on the court, is now navigating the uncharted waters of life beyond tennis.

A New Chapter

Edmund, once ranked as high as No. 14 in the PIF ATP Rankings, retired from professional tennis in August of last year. It was an emotional decision, one that left him questioning his future and the source of his passion.

"When I stopped playing, one of my worries was 'Where was the buzz going to come from?' I wasn't sure," Edmund reflects.

Finding Purpose

To address this uncertainty, Edmund enrolled in the inaugural ATP x LALIGA MBA in Sports Management program. This innovative initiative aims to guide current and former athletes towards leadership roles in the sports industry, offering a fresh perspective on life after competition.

The program has been a revelation for Edmund. It has provided him with a sense of purpose, a goal to strive for, and a community of like-minded individuals facing similar transitions.

"Having a goal, whether it be wanting to be a successful tournament director or anything else, you get the ball rolling. You're moving forward, you're always learning," he explains.

Exploring New Horizons

Edmund's journey post-retirement has been an exploration of various opportunities. He has dabbled in tournament direction, broadcasting, and speaking engagements focused on high performance and leadership.

His insatiable curiosity for other sports, from football to golf, has driven him towards the business side of sports management. The MBA program, with its practical focus and industry connections, has been instrumental in shaping his new path.

The Power of Learning

Returning to the classroom after a long hiatus was initially daunting for Edmund. However, the practical nature of the course quickly won him over.

"Everyone's sharing the same thoughts and feelings about what they're going to do, what they're looking for... We're all in the same camp of wanting to learn," he says.

Reflections on Retirement

Looking back, Edmund acknowledges that he could have prepared more for retirement during his playing days.

"When you're in the moment, tennis is all you care about. To get to the top, you have to commit almost all your time to doing that. But now that I'm on the other side, there are certain elements where I wish I did slightly prepare for the future," he reflects.

A Work in Progress

Edmund's journey is a work in progress, a testament to the resilience and adaptability of athletes. He is a pioneer in this new phase of his career, blazing a trail for other athletes to follow.

As he continues to learn and grow, Edmund's story serves as an inspiration for anyone facing a major life transition. It reminds us that retirement is not the end, but a new beginning, and that with the right mindset and support, we can all find our buzz in life's next chapter.
